Two Howl (and Calcifer) papercrafts! I’ve made Howl a number of times now, and I approach him a little differently every time to try to get better and faster. What’s the most efficient work process? What’s the most harmonious pattern combination? Will I ever stop forgetting the tiny teardrop jewels on his necklace and earring and having to go back in at the last second to add them?? (no)

But he’s always so much fun to make! The movie is gorgeous and the book is a longtime favorite of mine, so whenever I make him I have a lovely time putting on the HMC soundtrack and working steadily until I have a tiny, beautifully patterned wizard in my hands. (Or two tiny beautifully patterned wizards, in this case.)

could it be…? a good political cartoon?

The artist is Clay Bennett, a Pulitzer Prize winner and a veteran of his craft. Here’s some more of his work:

The wire hanger one hit me like a ton of bricks.

Can someone explain the last one to me

@t3sticles it’s a reference to coat hanger abortions, because defunding Planned Parenthood doesn’t stop abortions, it just means that people are forced to seek dangerous back-alley solutions

Ohhhh that makes sense, thank you

Yknow. If you’re like, a tow truck driver or something. And you get a call. “Oh no, there’s a strange camper van parked on my street for two days” like

If you get there and someone’s living out of that van. You can just. Not tow them. Like. Let them know what’s up so they can find a friendlier place to rest maybe but just. Idk. Tell your boss it was gone by the time you got there or something. Don’t do shit like that to people who are already struggling.

Maybe you’re not a tow truck driver. Maybe you’re someone with some other kind of power. You can just. Lie. Protect people. Say no. Pretend you didn’t see it. Move on. Let people live. Have some class solidarity, use your power for good. You have choice. You have agency. You have compassion. Don’t let being an employee strip you of that.

Disabled people need to be listened to when we design our cities. If we want Walkable cities they also need to be accessible cities and we need to recognize that banning cars is not the solution to all urban problems as car trips will always be necessary in some amount

Cars aren’t bad, urban designs centered entirely around cars are

This right here, it is the best way to say this, cars like any vehicle have their place, the issue is we have designed our cities to prioritize cars over all other forms of transit and mobility. To the detriment of people and livability
